Welcome to UCSD. I’m glad you’ve dropped by our virtual office, and I hope you will be a frequent visitor.

We believe UCSD is “the youngest of the best.” In just 40 years, we have risen to the top ranks of national academic institutions. Our faculty includes renowned scholars in every field; many were lured to UCSD by its reputation for lowering the walls that separate disciplines. Our five undergraduate colleges offer students the intimacy of a small college environment with the academic benefits of a world-class research university. Our close ties to the San Diego community are an asset and a special point of pride.

Extraordinary people come to UCSD because they can see the horizon from here: they can look west to the Pacific and beyond, and they can pursue horizons of new knowledge as they carry out UCSD’s three-part mission of education, research, and service to the citizens who support us.

This Office of the Chancellor Website has information on a wide range of activities, from ongoing efforts to maintain campus diversity to plans for managing future campus growth. I hope you’ll take time to become acquainted with the people and the initiatives that are central to UCSD’s administration. And I hope you’ll visit UCSD in person to experience the excitement of this young, vibrant campus.
