Frequently Asked Questions - ARLIS/NA 29th Annual Conference
| Q: Is it safe to use the online registration form? | |
|
A: The registration form for the 2001 conference is submitted in a secure manner via a secure script on the server, there is no need to actually set-up the form on a secure server site, the form information is transmitted via a secure cgi script on our server when the visitor selects the submit button. The message informing the visitor that they have been redirected to an insecure site comes after the submit action and the confirmation page is displayed. The visitor has left the secure script section on the server and is being returned (redirected) to the normal (non-secure) section of the site where the confirmation page is located. |

| Q: Can Institutional members register at the member registration rate? And if so, how many per institution? | |
| A: One designate per institution is allowed to register at the member rate. | |
| Q: Do I need to rent a car for the conference? | |
|
A: All of the events will be in the hotel and buses will be provided for the convocation and tours, therefore a car rental is not required. Although a rental car is highly recommended to explore LA before or after the conference. There is nothing more fun than cruising up the Coast in a convertible with a view of the Pacific Ocean! Car rentals from National Car Rental at the meeting/convention rates are available through Admiral Travel Agency. National offers the Best Rate Provision--automatically offering the lowest leisure rate less 10% discount or the convention rate, whichever is less at the time of booking. Make your travel reservations today by calling (800) 387-6767. Ask for Angele Latour or Laurie Kell and tell them you are registering for the Art Libraries Society of North America Annual Conference. |

| Q:What should I wear in Los Angeles? | |
|
A: Anything you want. Really. LA goes from extremely informal to black-tie, often at the same event. Whatever you feel comfortable in will work. Yes East Coast, this is not the cultural backwater you assume: we do wear black and we are the best of the best of the best. Any hair color or hair style will work -- you can even come as a sterotypical librarian if that will make you happy. What you don't want to do is to wear shorts in downtown LA -- that more than anything else screams "tourist." Well that and wearing a bathing suit at the beach. Hint: it will not be warm enough to swim in the ocean. It's not usually warm enough in the summer. As for weather, your guess is as good as mine (the webmaster talking). It might rain, but at most a light raincoat would be needed. Bring a few layers, it can get very cold -- sometimes down to 50 degrees -- at night. The daytime highs could be anywhere from mid 60s-mid 80s. No way to predict -- we'll update this info when we get closer to the conference. |

| Q:Can I smoke, or will the eco-terrorists hunt me down? | |
| A: You will only be able to smoke in your hotel room (assuming you choose a smoking room) or outside. California law prohibits smoking in public places. This goes beyond meeting rooms to the airport, to all restaurants and bars and even outdoors if you are sitting next to an eco-terrorists. Or me ... | |
