Hints for Using the Outreach Log

• Date: this is the date when most work was done, in the case of promotional articles, or date of event, such as the Open House.

• Name of Event or Outreach Category: list the event name, e.g. Preview Day, Admit Day, Navigator, or bioengineering faculty meeting, graduate student barbecue, e-mail contacts or notices, etc.

• Audience: please be as specific as possible, e.g. lower division biology, undergraduate writing program, chemistry faculty, psychology graduate students, etc.

• Number of Participants: the number of people reached by the Outreach (via e-mail or in person), or the number of people present at the event. In some cases this is an estimate, e.g. newsletter readership, or listserv posting, make best guesses using subscription numbers, when available.

• Prep(aration) Time: the time spent putting together handouts, calling or emailing faculty, writing articles, carrying promotional materials to library walk and setting up booth, etc.

• Time at Event: this is the actual contact time with the faculty, students, open house attendees, etc.

• Main Outreach Focus: in many cases this will just be something like "promoting library services/resources", in some cases this may be more specific, such as Guardian article on CDL Request, promoting electronic journals, lobbying faculty to include library sessions as part of their curriculum, etc.

• Notes: this space left for your own notes on the event, when needed.
