Often called the "crown jewel" or "cultural heart" of San Diego, the 1200 acres of Balboa Park is a wonderful place to spend a summer Sunday afternoon in San Diego. With 14 museums, four theaters, a botanical garden, an antique carousel, and a Japanese friendship garden, you are sure to find lots to do. Stroll through the studios of working artists in the Spanish Village, ride a miniature train, or just enjoy the street performers and the lush landscape. Delight in the music, dancing and food at the international cottages of the House of Pacific Relations, wander backstage on a tour of the Old Globe Theater, or listen to the music of the magnificent pipe organ at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion. Trace the history of flight at the San Diego Aerospace Museum, see a thrilling film at the Space (OMNIMAX) Theater on a screen ten times the size of regular movie theater screens or just relax underneath the landmark Moreton Bay fig that grows on the north side of the Natural History Museum. This tree, planted before 1915, is over 60 feet tall with a spread of 120 feet. Whether your interests include folk art, anthropology, photography, old masters, Oriental art, or sports, you will find a museum here for you.
($45.00 per person - choose either 1:00 to 6:00 or 1:00 to 10:00)

Get a little taste of Mexico with a visit to Tijuana; the fourth largest city in Mexico and the most visited. We will visit the Cultural Center, where you will enjoy art exhibits and where Mexico's colorful history comes to life. Tijuana's claim to fame, however, is shopping, blocks and blocks of it! We leave the Cultural Center to stroll along Tijuana's famous Avenida Revolucion. This eight-block strip of stores, stalls, arcades, and underground passageways are filled with bargains from all over the world. Shop for authentic Mexican handicrafts, leather goods, and Taxco sterling. You may even want to engage in a bit of haggling over prices. Be sure to stop at one of the many restaurants or cafes for a margarita or a taste of traditional Mexican fare. (Visitors to the northern part of Baja California do not need passports or tourist cards if staying in the country for 72 hours or less.) Purchases made in Mexico are duty free. Each shopper can bring back $400 worth of merchandise, including one liter of alcohol (if over 21), 100 cigars (excluding Cuban), and 200 cigarettes.
