Sounding Board

Sounding Board is a lecture series of speakers during the academic year, every first Thursday at 12 noon.  Oceanids and friends of meet at the UCSD Faculty Club convene in a specially designated room to eat lunch and listen to fascination speakers.  Lunch is $12.50 for guests and $8 for Faculty Club members.  Coffee and ice tea are provided in the meeting room.  Interruptions with questions or statements during the talk are allowed, even welcome.  You can be sure of a lively discussion!

Marye Anne Fox, Chancellor, UC San Diego

Marye Anne Fox

Marye Anne Fox is a nationally known chemist and academic leader. Appointed Chancellor of UC San Diego in April 2004, Fox also holds the title of distinguished professor of chemistry and has received honorary degrees from 12 institutions in the United States and abroad. She is an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences. Previously, she was chancellor and distinguished professor of chemistry at North Carolina State University, and she has held several posts at the University of Texas-Austin.  She received her B.S. degree from Notre Dame College, a master’s from Cleveland State University and a Ph.D. from Dartmouth College.  Fox is married to chemistry professor James K. Whitesell; she is the mother of five sons and grandmother of eight grandsons and one granddaughter.
